Radiant heating and cooling system in living room scene
Pure Radiant Heating & Cooling Control Solution for Heat Pump Homes
Deliver year-round heating and cooling through a single underfloor system — without fan coil units, without extra indoor equipment, and without complex installation.
Radiant climate control system product kit front view

Overview

A single hydronic radiant floor network provides silent, efficient heating and cooling across multiple zones with native heat pump integration and flexible wired or wireless control.

Conventional systems add fan coil units for cooling — increasing cost, noise, and complexity. Our solution uses the same underfloor network for both seasons, delivering quiet comfort without extra indoor equipment.

This approach is ideal for temperate climates where gentle radiant cooling alone ensures summer comfort and rapid response is not required. See our guide on ERP‑compliant heat pump integration →

Core Capabilities

● Dual-season comfort
● Heat pump ready
● Multi-zone control
● Wired or wireless radiant thermostats
● No FCU required

Solution Architecture

Multi-zone thermostats, actuators, and heat pumps working as one integrated radiant control platform. The master controller coordinates seasonal mode selection — switching the entire system between heating and cooling through a single command. Both wired (SAS931WCH) and wireless (SAS936BWCH) thermostats support this changeover logic, receiving mode commands from the master or directly from the heat pump via dry contact interlock. Thermal actuators then regulate water flow to each zone through the wiring centre, enabling precise room-by-room comfort control throughout the building.

Architecture Highlights

Centralised Hydronic Control Layer
Orchestrates multi-zone thermostats, thermal actuators, and heat pumps into a unified hydronic control platform, ensuring consistent system behaviour across the entire building.

Native Wired & Wireless Readines
The same architecture supports both wired (SAS931WCH) and wireless (SAS936WCH) deployment — without core system redesign.

Simplified Project Delivery
Fewer terminal types, fewer control devices, and a standardized architecture reduce installation, commissioning, and long-term service complexity. Explore our full range of WCH Series radiant thermostats for scalable residential projects.

Direct Heat Pump Signal Integration
Interfaces directly with air-to-water heat pumps via dedicated dry contacts or communication protocols, enabling accurate seasonal changeover, conflict-avoidance logic, and optimised system efficiency.

Application Scenarios

Heat Pump Homes — Summer Cooling Without FCUs
Challenge: Homeowners want summer cooling, but adding fan coil units means extra equipment, higher costs, and noise. They need a solution that delivers cooling without compromising the clean, minimalist aesthetic of their home.
Our solution: Use the same underfloor system for both heating and cooling — no fan coil units, no visible equipment, no additional indoor footprint. During summer, the reversible heat pump supplies chilled water through the floor circuits, providing gentle, silent radiant cooling that maintains comfort without air drafts.
● Heat pump ready
● Multi-zone
● No FCU

Low-Energy Homes
Silent Climate Control Without Extra Devices
Challenge: Energy-efficient homes are designed for minimal energy consumption, but adding fan coil units for cooling introduces noise, maintenance, and additional system complexity that contradicts the passive house philosophy.
Our solution: Radiant heating and cooling operate silently with no moving parts, no filters to replace, and no fan noise. By using the floor slab as a thermal battery, the system maintains stable temperatures with minimal energy input — ideal for low-energy and passive house projects.
● Silent comfort
● Energy saving
● Room control

Premium Renovations — Invisible Cooling for Period Properties
Challenge: In period properties and premium renovations, preserving architectural character is paramount. Homeowners want cooling for increasingly warm summers, but installing fan coil units or visible terminals would compromise the interior design and heritage value.
Our solution: Cooling is delivered invisibly through the same floor circuits that provide heating — no wall-mounted units, no ceiling cassettes, no exposed pipework. For projects where running new control wiring is impractical, the wireless option (SAS936WCH) eliminates the need for cabling while delivering the same cooling performance.
● Invisible system
● Wireless option
● Easy retrofit

FAQ

What are the energy efficiency benefits of pure radiant heating and cooling?

Radiant systems operate at lower water temperatures (25-35°C for heating, 15-20°C for cooling) compared to conventional radiator or forced-air systems, significantly improving heat pump COP (Coefficient of Performance) and reducing overall energy consumption.

Is radiant cooling effective in humid climates?

Pure radiant cooling is best suited for temperate climates with moderate humidity levels (such as the UK, Ireland, and Scandinavia). For high-humidity regions, we recommend evaluating Hybrid (C) or Advanced (D) solutions with integrated dew-point management.

How does system stability perform during seasonal transitions?

The master controller handles automatic seasonal changeover between heating and cooling modes. Room thermostats independently regulate each zone, ensuring consistent comfort regardless of outdoor temperature fluctuations.

How does this solution perform in extreme cold conditions?

Pure radiant systems maintain stable indoor temperatures even in sub-zero outdoor conditions, provided the heat pump is properly sized for the building's heating load. The hydronic network delivers uniform heat distribution without cold spots.

Can I upgrade from Pure Radiant to Hybrid or Advanced later?

Yes. The system architecture supports future expansion. If your cooling requirements increase over time, you can integrate fan coil units (Hybrid) or capillary systems (Advanced) without replacing the existing underfloor infrastructure.
