The "Dew Point" Myth: Why Fixed Water Temperature Logic is the Safe Bet for Cooling Retrofits

Mar 06,2026

The Fear Factor: "Sweating Floors"

The biggest barrier preventing HVAC contractors from enabling cooling in retrofit projects is the fear of condensation.

In the industry, we call it the "sweating floor" nightmare—where cold surfaces meet humid air, potentially damaging expensive hardwood or creating slip hazards.

Traditionally, the only way to combat this was to install humidity sensors in every zone to calculate the dew point. In a retrofit, this means cutting walls, running miles of new cable, and increasing the system’s failure surface.

The Strategy: Software-Defined Temperature Floor

Our 8-zone controller adopts a Fixed Supply Water Temperature Logic. Instead of chasing a moving dew point with complex sensors, the system maintains a consistent, safe water temperature—typically 18°C (64°F) or higher.

  • Passive Safety: In most European residential environments, a floor surface cooled by 18°C water remains reliably above the dew point.
  • No New Wiring: You don't need to install a single humidity sensor or pull any new cables through historic stone walls.
  • Stability: No sensor calibration issues, no signal drops, just consistent sensible cooling.

PLC & Logic: Precision Without the Mess

By utilizing PLC (Powerline Communication), our master hub communicates with thermostats over the existing power grid.

When the system switches to summer mode, the internal logic automatically clamps the heat pump’s output to the pre-set safety floor. It turns the "uncontrollable risk" of radiant cooling into a predictable, manageable asset.

Conclusion

Radiant cooling doesn't have to be a high-stakes gamble. By shifting from "active dew-point sensing" to "robust fixed-temperature logic," brand owners can offer high-margin cooling packages that are easy to install and impossible to mess up.
